Biochemistry

The science of living things

Biochemistry is the chemistry and molecular nature of living things. Biochemistry at USD teaches the information and energy flow of cells and organisms, structure and function of biological molecules and how cells do their business. Experience the chemistry and molecular nature of living things in a program recognized by both the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB).

Learn molecular biology (DNA) techniques and do research where you make and experiment with your own designer proteins in advanced "special topics" courses, such as cancer biochemistry, biotechnology and computational chemistry.

Trina Nguyentu, '23

Biochemistry major

Since she's been at the University of San Diego, Trina Nguyentu's summer hangout in San Diego has not been at the beach. Her time, instead, has been spent inside the fourth-floor laboratory of the Shiley Center for Science and Technology (SCST) building where she does research work with Chemistry and Biochemistry Department Chair and Professor Joseph Provost, PhD.
